slow acceleration

Featured Replies

I have trawled through the topics but cant find an answer to my problem.

My Focus titanium has a problem with acceleration, basically it has non, the car drives ok but it takes ages to get up to speed and wont go faster than 70mph, there are no warning lights on the dash to indicate a problem. It was an intermitant problem to start with but does it all the time now, I don't think it has anything to do with limp mode! not that I would now anyway!. I have been told it could be either the mass air sensor or the throttle position sensor! could one of these possibly be the cause! any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hello Chris and welcome to the Ford Owners Club. 👍

Yes it could very possibly be either of those. When did you last change the Air Filter ?

It was changed less than a year ago, would it be worth changing any way!

It wouldn't hurt but I can't imagine the air filter could be THAT bad in less than a year, so I don't think it'll be the culprit to be honest.

Usually both of those would log a fault code.

I would say something is up with the EGR.

When was the fuel filter last changed?

Check all the boost hose connections and hoses for splits, after that it may be the turbo is shot

Hi all,

I have a 61 plate Focus, 1.6 zetec, each morning now when I start it and set off, for about a minute I get almost no power when I press the throttle, it resolves itself and drives pretty much fine after that. No fault codes are coming up during diagnostic.

Good job I live on a quiet street where I can get it up to speed, any help or suggestions gratefully appreciated.
