Oil change required

Featured Replies

Hi all

Bought a Fiesta Vignale new in Dec 2019. It has done around 13000 miles and the oil change light has come on although it is not due a service until 2 years. Does this mean j need to get a full service now or just pay for an oil change? Also, does the oil change need to be official ford with the caf being on a PCP?

I believe the service interval is either 12 or 12.5k miles for the 1 litre engine. I wouldn't leave it longer than that. A "full service" is pretty much just an oil change. The service can be done at any VAT registered garage and shouldn't affect your warranty.

The modern Fords calculate the periodicity based on your driving style. If you're sat at 70mph on the motorway all the time your oil will degrade less than heavy idling and stop/start traffic.

I think the whole 2 years between services is a false economy (I think it's more of a marketing thing to get people interested in the car as it would have lower servicing costs compared to others). Personally I'd stick to oil changes every year, just to make sure you get the most out of your engine as you can.

Ford state maximum 18,000 or two years for the Mk 8 1.0.

It seems very few of us trust that and go for annual changes anyway.

I enquired at the time of ordering my car and could find no evidence that Ford had changed anything in the engine or oil specification between the Mk 7.5 and the original (non-MHEV) Mk 8 to justify the longer interval, so I have gone for annual changes.

VW Group have two service regimes - fixed (annual) or variable (up to 2 years) but the latter uses different (and very expensive) oil.

Thanks guys. So how does it work with the PCP that i have? Is it worth getting Ford to do the full first service early (not due until Dec)?

Yes do the service, it's not early when the car says it's due. I'd check your terms, but usually it doesn't say you have to go to ford and do it as long as the history is recorded.

Me, for one, Roger.   I don't care what Ford says, my car get it's oil changed every year and I only do about 5000 miles a year.
