Window seal rubber trim issue

Featured Replies

Hi there,

About a week ago I noticed the passenger side, window seal trim had some sort of damage on it. My car was parked in a car depot in a parking bay, safe all day. I finished my days work and noticed this bubble or damage to the seal as I was getting my bag out the passenger seat.

The only thing I could think off was it was extremely hot that day. It was actually really hot that week. Another explanation was I work at a bus depot and they park buses not far from the parking bays where my car was parked. It could be that the sun was shining in the direction of the buses side mirrors and the light has somehow reflected back onto my car were the window seal Is

I really don't know but I doubt someone has purposely damaged my car. I've called Ford to ask if it would be covered by warrenty. Spoke to a dealer here in Glasgow and he was quite dismissive on his 30 plus years that the sun could do such damage as the seals are meant to take such tempretures, and the fact ford sell cars to countries with far more heat and sun than the UK.

I tried arnold Clark Ford after this clown told me to get in touch with customer relations to ask for a code. I did exactly that and customer relations told me that it was the dealer that had to make the call and not me for a goodwill code. But in order to do that then the car needs to be booked in and checked. I did ask the clown if he wanted me to bring the car in so he can check but he was dismissive once again. I've got an appointment with Arnold Clark Ford in September as they're fully booked so they can see the car. Anyone else have such issues with their window trim? I'll attach some pictures.

Cheers.

It does seem strange but if it was my car I don’t think I could be bothered with the hassle and I would just leave it and I think the chances of a free repair are pretty much nil. But you never know.

I don't think that's sun damage. Looks like something sharp has caught on it and teared it.

For the sake of £25 it's not worth the hassle trying to bull ***** yourself a free repair.

It does look like a small cut but when i saw it after my shift I noticed it was slightly melted. Definitely not bullshit.

The dealerships I called pretty much trying to get out of it. Although I did see an American Ford ranger with similar damage and the owner said he believed it was sun damage also. He got it repaired under warranty. That was a 5 minute Google search. Who knows though, I'm getting it serviced anyway so they're gonna check it anyway.

The ford workshop manager also told me that it could be a spillage of some substance that's melted the rubber, which would come under as damage and not come under warrenty. Not sure what could cause that kind of damage but he was looking for excuses without even checking the damage first. If you look at the pictures I've sent. You can see it looks like it's melted slightly with the discoloration and the fact the rubber has split. That's what it looks like to me. But again I'm not sure. I don't believe someone purposely damaged my car with something sharp when it's in a depot all day.

Does nobody else have similar issues with their trim?

The warranty is against manufacturing flaws, this won’t get done on warranty, if it was Ford’s fault it would have happened to more vehicles, would probably have happened to more than just that small area, and probably happened earlier in its life.

Try get a quote for the part and see how much a local garage would charge to fit it i

Even if it was sun damage, there's nothing to say that Ford have to cover it under warranty. As said above, its not like it's been caused by a manufacturing defect as it has been used in extreme conditions.

If you get on with the dealer then you may get lucky and offered a goodwill gesture, but judging by your experience so far, I doubt it.

I did a quick search this morning and found it's not even that expensive to buy one and fit it yourself. It's not worth hassling with a dealer for such little financial gain.

it looks like someone has stuck a lighter next to it and melted it..i doubt the sun in this country could do that and yes i know it has been hot here recently

It does look melted. I doubt it was a lighter that did that as I work at a bus depot. The only thing I can think about is the sun and possibly thr sun reflecting off a mirror and bouncing on that part of the trim. I really don't know but it doesn't look like someone has cut it. First sights was it was melted. It was extremely hot in Glasgow that day! I mean really hot.

I'm putting it in for a service as well so I might as well get it checked while it's in the shop for its annual check. If they don't fix it then I'll probably fix it myself. It's just the fact it's a 2 year old car and it's needing repairs. Albeit just the trim but it's still annoying.

Yeah. I'll look into it.

Cheers.
