unofix
Hi Mike, I kind of think you have answered your own question. Problem is most likely the EGR valve as you yourself have said. So replace the EGR valve and see if the problem goes away. Since I don't know the exact engine you have I can't say what part number you need but a quick look on eBay shows most models are covered. For example:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393414849398?fits=Car+Make%3AFord|Model%3AGalaxy&hash=item5b995a3376:g:3zkAAOSwDqlgsqd-

unofix
I used to have a 51 plate Galaxy 2.3 Ghia which I loved dearly. Kept it for 10 years and only once had a problem with it, which was the A/C compressor failed.

unofix
I wouldn't block the EGR valve off, it can in the long term lead to other issues. They are not really a problem remember that the one fitted now has lasted over 12 years so if say the replacment only lasted 6 years would that be a big problem ?
