Service engine now problem

Featured Replies

Hi there I hve a 65 plate focus estate, I got it about 2 years ago on 66,000 miles it’s now on about 115,000 as I use it as a taxi.

About a month ago the car was driving fine and the it randomly popped up saying engine service now and then basically having no power when I put my foot down.

it has been into a local garage that said there was a maf sensor fault so replaced that didn’t sort it. Thought I would book it into the closest main dealer garage. They told me there was a faulty glow plug….replaced all 4 glow plugs (which cost like £565 which I think is mad)

anyways I’ve picked it up 3 times from there each time being told it’s been fixed and road tested then I get half way home and it pops back up again.

they recommended I get the engine carbon cleaned as it could save me a lot of money. Done that that’s when I was pulling out of the garage where I got it done it popped up again!

now I’m kinda stuck on what to do!!!

any advice would be great thanks

When it says "engine service now" and you lose power, the car will log a fault code. Without that fault code we literally can't offer any useful advice on how to fix it.

What is the DTC's logged ?

You can read them yourself using a laptop, a ELM327 lead, and Forscan software.

We just had this problem with my wifes car, 2015 focus 1.5 diesel, the "engine service now" would come up and the car would drive fine but no power if you put your foot down hard. If the car was stopped and started, the problem went away for a while, this happened for many weeks and no fault codes were logged, then one week a fault code was logged which implied MAF sensor, I bought some special cleaner and gave it a good spray and also changed the air filter which was pretty dirty.  Alas this did not fix the problem so I had to bite the bullet and put it into the local ford dealer, they replaced the maf sensor and said it was all sorted.   Next day wife took it to work and "engine service now" appeared again under hard acceleration, sent it back to the dealer and they had it for several days to get to the bottom of the problem, they captured diagnostic data during test drives and sent this to ford technical for analysis.   Anyway to cut to the chase the problem was a with the EGR valve which was badly clogged with oil / carbon deposits, this was cleaned up and the problem was fixed!
