Do you have a jack in your boot.

Featured Replies

I changed my foam kit when i had the car 7 years ago to a space saver wheel and jack kit but its under all the stuff in the boot (MK7 Titanium 1.6 2011)

Do you carry a spare jack in the boot just to grab quick if needed,i have the little Bottle jack but it wont fit under the car as car is to low.

Which one do you use or carry as i did have a small Trolly jack but gave it to a friend as a bit heavy to carry around and just seeing if its worth getting one.

The only time I could think of needing a jack quick would be to change the wheel.

You can buy small 12V electric air Jack's that can lift 2 ton, just have a look on eBay

I can't see any logic to carrying a 'spare' jack. What would you need it for at the roadside, other than changing a wheel? If you are changing the wheel then you're going to need to get the spare which is next to the standard jack.

I don't have a jack in the boot, would always be worried about the damn thing springing out when I least expected it.  Oh wait, that's a jack in the box... :whistling:

Carrying a second jack is just insane- use the one you've got!

I have the one that came with the spare wheel.   What would be the point of me carrying another one?

I used to have two from a previous car! One which was used & scratched to death, that was in the boot.

The other was a brand spanking new jack and kept in a box in the shed 🤔 When I sold that car I swapped the used jack to the brand new jack, impressed the buyer that the jack had never been used and put at least 99p on the sale of the car....lol

I have a spare genuine 1970 Capri Mk1 jack in the garage just encase I ever find myself needing to change the wheel on a Capri Mk1 🤣

I used to keep a trolley jack but for just one purpose. I bought a very large (18 room) house at Mablethorpe and spent 6 years converting it into flats (did all the work myself).   My wife would come over from Nottingham at weekends and we may have had to get the car out in a hurry as she suffers from Type 1 Latex Allergy and can go into anaphylactic shock, in which case I have to get her to hospital in a hurry.   No time to wait for an ambulance.   The problem was the house was opposite the post office and people would park across the drive while they went to the post office.   During the 6 years we were there, there were two occasions when I used the trolley jack and, to teach the drivers a lesson, I dragged the back of the offending car into the middle of the road with the trolley jack and just left it there.

was that the type like this?

it seemed a good design. you did not have to get on your knees. you stuck the arm into a hole/bracket on underside of sill and stood there winding the handle at the top . It seemed very good until you realised the arm was rising but the car was not, because it was just crunching a chunk out of your weak and rusty sill. I remember 'trying' to use these

I know a few people that do only a small one, just thought i would ask if any does on here.

I never thought that if anyone has a flat they have to get the spare out anyway🤣🤣 just got to pop downstairs to get my brains as there in my shoes.

The only one i have at home now is a very old bottle jack, you have a screw on top to make it that bit higher (and the one in the car that is new).

Not the first time I've heard of similar stories and there's a couple on youtube showing it being done but in the USA, the best one has to be when the cops come and to the offending vehicle is towed away, it was completely blocking the road off.

That's what I was hoping for Ian.

Yes but mine is the traditional Ford Blue colour. I didn't realise it was worth so much !! Think I should put mine on eBay.
