Driver Footwell Leak - When AC Running

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've noticed my engine coolant running down over time. I took it to a garage who replaced the coolant and did a pressure test. Was ok.

A few weeks have passed and I just got my AC Gas replaced. Two days later after having been running the AC (wasn't really running before as was completely empty) I've noticed the drivers footwell is wet.

The footwell was 100% not wet before the AC got replaced. Noticed the coolant via the engine has also gone down again.

I've pulled part of the carpet back and noticed a black plastic pipe running up into the centre dash that makes a low hissing sound when the AC is running and is wet/dripping.

The liquid tastes like coolant. Garage thinks it maybe the heater matrix. It's odd though that it's only really getting wet after the AC has been replaced. Any thoughts ideas?

Certainly symptomatic of a leak in the heater matrix, may just be a coincidence with the A/C being filled... (By the way, what does coolant 'taste' like??)

Coolant tastes sweet...but I wouldn't recommend drinking it.

There is a water drain from the bottom of the AC evaporator...that's most likely the pipe behind the carpet.  Can you post a picture of it to confirm?

Also, if you can use a bit of White tissue to pick up some of the liquid, that might help see if it's clear or coloured.

Hey - so the leak is now happening regardless if the air is on or not.

I put my hand behind the plastic dash to the left of the clutch pedal (UK right hand drive) and this clamp fell out. Was definitely not attached or seriously attached to anything, could this be the source?

Thanks!

I suppose my next question would be how to remove the driver side kick panel to gain better access to the pipes so I can attempt to place the clamp back on/replace.

That would be a hvac pipe they join under the dash of the drivers footwell there’s an o-ring in each pipe and one of those clips on each mine is currently leaking aswell but Ford will try to charge the earth to fix it
