Convert Diesel to Diesel

Featured Replies

Ok, I recently asked about viability of converting a Fiesta diesel to petrol. Stoopid idea !

I have been told by a couple of breakers that the engine currently fitted, 1399TDci, was only fitted for a short time. So it is hard to come by.

Hopefully not another daft question, but will any other small Ford diesel fit without major modification ?

I'm no expert on the 1.4 diesel, but (unless your car has some obscure variant) I'm a bit surprised by that comment. The engine was widely used for years in Fiesta and Fusion and basically similar to those used in small Citroens and Peugeots.

I don’t know how many slight variations there are on the1.4 diesel but it had been fitted to fiestas for at least 10 years I reckon.  It is a Peugeot engine also used in Peugeot 207 etc, I don’t know what subtle differences there might be in the different versions

Was also used in the 206...I learnt to drive in one.  Put me off diesel for the first 3 years in my own cars!

Your particular engine type might have only been a short run.  Do you know the 4 digit code?

Well I thought they would be pretty common but two different breakers have said that variant only fitted for three to four years.

I was told if it was the 1.4 upto 1399 then it was rare, if it was 1401 or up then common ?

And to be honest I have not seen many advertised on Ebay and the like ? Still looking.

Where will I find '4 digit code ?

I've only seen it (or the Peugeot 206 version Tom mentioned) described as 1399cc. Can't recall ever seeing 1401 anywhere.

I think he meant anything over 1401cc was 'available' and upto 1399 'rare'. Guess 1400cc doesn't exist ? 🤔

It would be very unusual for the actual capacity to be 1.4, 1.6, or whatever.

In the case of the 1.4 tdci the actual capacity is 1399, not 1400 and afaik not 1401 either!😃

So that makes sense. When he asked engine size and I replied 1.4, he responded upto 1399 or over 1400 ?

Might have worn an extra CC or two in over the years!

The code is easiest found on the V5 log book.  It'll be something like F6JB.

You 1.4 guys get more for your money than those of us with 1.6 TDCis, they're only 1560cc!!  Rip off.

But the 1.1 litre mk1 fiestas were 1117cc , what a bonus, buy 1100cc and get an extra 17 free

My first Fiesta back in 1980 was a 1.1. Compared to what I was driving immediately prior (a Triumph Toledo) it seemed really quick - those extra 17ccs made all the difference!😃

OOH ! triumph Toledo, guy in work runs a restored triumph 1300 it's predecessor.  Always wanted a Dolomite m'self.

Haha! So did I at the time (a Sprint of course!) but needs must!

Just thinking about this, it sounds as if the guy was just quoting from a list, like a taxation table, rather than from any knowledge of the engines.

You're right there aren't many about though - I had a quick search on the web. And the chances of finding one in better condition than what you have may be pretty slim, given the number of years since this engine was replaced by the 1.5tdci.

Sprint was the one to have, but a 1500 would have done me.

You got it 🤔

Or maybe you haven't !

I would of thought now you would not get a car over the cc as 1401 it would always be under.
