Bigger injectors for the 1.0 Ecoboost

Featured Replies

I have been on the hunt for large flowing injectors for my car for a while now and I have not had any luck as hardly any manufacturer uses a similar injector and if they do they have a very low flow rate. I looked at The Focus ST and RS but they have a different configuration due to not being a top down style but a side feed that fits into the cylinder head from the inlet side rather than top down on the 1.0.

Due to the design of the injector it will not fit into the 1.0 due to it sharing the space with a spark plug.

Link to pic shows St typre injector with a 1.0 next to it.

I managed to get hold of some new Focus ST injectors for a low price and set about cutting them about to make them fit into the space available.

Although I did do a ghetto test to see if they would work.

In the link bellow you can see them firing during cranking. Not the best pic as I was not going to be standing too close as my set up was less than safe!

So they worked and I didnt kill myself trying to test them the first set I cut up was the cheap Focus injectors to see if I could make them fit which they did so I then ordered 2 more of the VW higher flowing injectors and proceded to cut them up.

The fist attempt came out ok but I hadnt left any clearence for the clip that holds the injector down so had to re make my mould tool that was printed with a 3d printer.

After a re design here is a picture of the injector fitted into the mould.

I also made a clip to go round the top of the injector whilst it was in the mould to ensure the clip which holds down the injector would fit on after which can be seen in the lik below.

Fingers crossed I will be getting these fitted into my car tomorrow then spending the evening playing with the fuel map which will be fun.

Just out of interest what power are you chasing? I've seen 1.0L ecoboosts push 200hp on a hybrid turbo, and I don't recall them having the injectors maxed out. No doubt the IB5 would explode at this sort of power anyway.
