(59) focus 1.6 petrol 195,000

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a focus it’s got high mileage 195,000 and I think throw out bearing is on way out and not getting very good mileage with a slight miss fire and smell of petrol

I am not sure which way to go as I wouldn’t mind keeping it

secondhand engine?

recon engine?
not got a fortune to spend but if
anyone can throw me some pointers that would be great thanks

I had to google that one just to be sure, I was in the trade for fifty years and I have never heard it referred to as a throw out bearing just a clutch released bearing, I bet it's another American term that's found it's way over here via the internet.

If it's misfiring you will smell petrol and get low mileage, it all depends what's causing the misfire, it may be something simple like spark plugs or it may be something more expensive, hard to say without any details.

Firstly, what the hell is a throw out bearing when it's at home?? 😀

First thing to check is the spark plugs, coil pack and HT leads are good, after that then you need to do a compression test.
