Ford Mondeo Intelligent Speed Limiter Issue

Featured Replies

Hi All, 😀

I have a 2020 Ford Mondeo Hybrid ST-Line which I have owned from new.

It is fitted with a speed limiter which can be set manually or put into an intelligent mode where it sets itself based on the speed limit signs on the side of the road.

In the example below let's assume we enter a 30mph zone and the limiter is set to intelligent mode.

Just after passing the 30mph speed limit sign the limiter correctly sets itself to 30mph. However, if I turn a corner within that 30mph zone the limiter cancels itself. I have noticed that it only does it if you 1) turn a corner and 2) Use the indicators.

If you either use the indicator whilst passing a cyclist etc or turn a corner without using the indicator the limiter remains set at 30mph.

So to be clear I have to both turn a corner and indicate for it to deactivate, doing either of these two things separately does NOT cause it to deactivate. 🤪

Has anyone else come across this issue, it does not seem very intelligent to me if it deactivates just because I indicated and turned a corner remaining in the 30mph zone.

Thanks

Hi Mark, yes the problem is known about. There seems to be no fix and Ford UK don't even seem to understand how the system works (or should we doesn't work). There are those on this forum who have launched official complaints about the problem and are seeking compensation.

I've now received a reply from Ford technical. My questions are in plain text, the answers are in bold italic.

Is the system designed to “forget” the displayed limit whenever the vehicle turns off of the road? I would expect the answer to be no as, if the answer was yes it would render the system somewhat useless when used in conjunction with the intelligent speed limiter but it is worth asking the question.

I do not believe the system remembers limits. It will read this via the camera.

I am puzzled that the system now briefly displays the national speed limit sign and then extinguishes. I don’t believe the car has any way of knowing whether it is on a 60 or 70mph road. What is it expected to show in a national speed limit area?

These are the rules of thumb

- TSR is not using data of the Navigation system

- There are some situation where no speed limit is shown, e.g. after passing a city entrance

- National speed limits are not displayed.

Is the system designed to see and respond to motorway overhead matrix signs?

No the system has it limitations and depending on the sign there are scenarios where it wont read it

 Definition of TSR Camera Only:

Forward looking camera is used to identify speed limits. Navigation data is not used even if Navigation system might be available. Speed limit display performance depends on the number of speed limit signs on the road. National Speed limits are not displayed --> example: passing a city entrance sign will lead to no speed limit display.

My system remembers speed limits for at least a mile so long as I don't turn left or right, probably longer. It also displays national speed limit signs for a few seconds. I'll need to go out with my daughter tomorrow to take some photos etc and then reply. I get the feeling that the guy who has written this is American given the reference to "city" entrances.

Well that just about renders the intelligent mode totally useless and a complete waist of money since it is likely that when in a speed limited area such as a 30mph zone a driver is highly likely to be making left and right turns.

The only work around from what I can see is not to use left and right indicators when turning corners, then the speed limiter remains active.😡

UNOFIX - I have searched the forum but can not find any other people with a similar issue. Can you point me to the people you mention please.

Many Thanks

Hi will search for the others on Monday when I'm home and not looking at a tiny phone screen
