Mk6 ABS

Featured Replies

Any ideas how the plug comes off the ABS unit as I want to clean connections. Don’t want to damage any plastic parts.

Cheers

Sorry to keep going on about this but have run the car through Forscan and have the following errors coming up with the ignition on. Have cleared log on laptop and run again and still there and ABS light still on 😞

Would Forscan show up and error for a wheel sensor?

Could it be a power issue to the ABS module?

Just trying to rule out replacing ABS module when it turns out to be something else

I can’t see anywhere where I can rest the ABS light in Forscan unless it can’t be done

Any help really appreciated

You can use Forscan and run a test on the ABS module.

Other than clearing the DTC's you can not reset the ABS to put out the warning light while the fault exists.

Use live data on forscan and check ABS wheel sensors

Thanks Unofix 🙂

I had a 2007 fiesta which then became my brothers. At 11yrs old and 165k miles the abs pump failed. Hope you can fix it by cleaning contacts but don’t get too hopeful, I feel it is unlikely.   Will of course need sorting for mot, but the mot manual does say that abs can be removed from a car as long as it is ALL removed . There are two obstacles there. A) when removing pump/abs unit, the pipes would need joining up to bypass where abs unit was, and b) an insurance company would be very anti this.  My brothers fiesta has sat in his front garden in long grass for three years because of this fault, of course there’s plenty of other decay now.   He did talk to a few garages about having a 2nd hand or recon unit fitted. They all said they have had too many problems with doing that and they would only instal a brand new Ford unit (and would be happy to fit one the customer supplied only if a brand new Ford unit) but that was very very expensive

Can't understand how that would be possible.

Tha law regarding ABS says:-

Anti-lock brakes (ABS) are one of the single biggest contributors to road safety, perhaps second only to seatbelts. They were made compulsory in 2004

Construction and use regs and mot regs different rules again.

If the ABS has been intentionally rendered inoperative, the whole system must be removed. This does not apply to sensor rings or other ABS components which are an integral part of another component, such as a brake disc or drive shaft.

It’s not permissible to remove or disable the ABS from a vehicle first used on or after 1 January 2010. Not all vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2010 will have ABS, so the failure only applies where the system has obviously been removed.

Why would a vehicle first used after January 2010 not have ABS. All vehicles from 2004 are surposed to have ABS systems ?

imports i guess. mot rules have to allow for those

Thanks for the advice on checking the wheel sensors in Forscan. Unfortunately all 4 sensors were reading so can at least rule those out. Shame.

We ran the on Demand rest on the abs module and got zero errors. Does that mean modules OK or the electrics on the module are OK but mechanically there is a fault?

Thanks for the help

I would think it is possible it is a pump failure. Electrically the pump motor may be running fine but the mechanical part of the pump is faulty.
