Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.0 Ecoboost - 3 years old and falling apart

Featured Replies

In the last 6 weeks, I've had a faulty fuel injector replaced, been advised to change the CAT due to the coolant leaked into the engine and just this week the gearbox stopped functioning for 5th and 6th gears.  Is this expected of a 3 year old ford with 37k miles.  Its booked in to the Ford garage in Two weeks to have the gear box repair, have been advised that this will probably over 1k to do. There has been no offer of a goodwill payment to help with the repairs, apparently I'm at fault because I took the car to a non ford dealer for its 2nd service.  Any advice would be appreciated.  The warranty ran out in February.

Of Fords in general - No

Of the 1.0 ecoboost engine - in my opinion yes. There will be many that sing the praises of the 1.0 ecoboost but just as many who won't.

Neither the injector fault nor the gearbox failure are the fault of the Ecoboost engine. A bit of grit in the fuel can damage an injector and a hamfisted oaf can kill a gearbox in 10'000 miles but it is untypical. Servicing will have made no difference to the gearbox so I would talk to Ford customer services. If this is the new six speed, it is pretty tough in a standard car and concerningly young enough for Ford to take an interest in why it broke. At three years, they would like you to buy another so play the game with them...

Assuming that's a mis-type and you mean fuel?

Yes Sorry I meant fuel.

Thanks a lot,  Will try my luck with them.

Hi, Should the vehicle still be under warranty?

If so, providing the 2nd service was carried out by a VAT registered garage, following Ford service standards and using Ford parts, it's illegal to tell you the warranty is void.

Phone Ford Customer relations centre and ask them, if they agree they will give you a case number to give to your dealer to claim warranty.

After they have completed the work, inform them you are reporting them to trading standards for miss-representation.

Hold on, the car is out of warranty. This will need goodwill from all parties and if it fails again, you will need to maintain that goodwill.

I have a 2014 Ecoboost with a similar mileage (although in KM), and generally it has been very reliable. I had a tiny gear box issue a couple of years ago, basically getting into 3rd was next to impossible and other gears were a bit messed up. The dealer said they had "tightened a few things up" and it was fine. When I got it back it was like a new car, the cost was about 80e from what I remember.

What country do you live in. A Ford Main Dealer here in the UK wouldn't open the bonnet never mind fix something £60 😟
