Five litres of Ford Magnatec. £32 Amazon. Pollen filter and oil filter £26.

at 17,000 miles and four years I decided to bring forward the service as I'm off gallivanting around the civilised part of the world next month. The oil was down to 25% life which is acceptable but Fresh oil never does any harm, especially with an oil bath cambelt.

I decided not to buy the catchpenny bolt. It has an O ring and there is no sensible reason to replace it whatsoever as it is just an unnecessary ripoff. Every (and that's a lot) car I have ever changed the oil on has not needed one.

But that isn't good enough for Ford. It is designed to self destruct on withdrawal. Having rounded it off with a six sided Snap-On socket of the correct size, it needed a hammer and chisel to shift the ***** thing after two hours of treating it nicely and a fair bit of filing back to shape to refit it. I'll have to get one next time although I am minded to turn one up in brass instead and screw a magnet into the end of it. Everything else went fine apart from the delay meaning that I need to swap out the pollen filter in the morning when I move the wheels around to wear the tyres out evenly.

Good evening!

I recently changed my engine's oil (Ford Castrol Magnatec 0W-20) here at official Ford's Dealership in Greece and paid 221 euros for oil and oil filter!!!

First oil change costed a lot and i feel a little worry about the bigger services that will follow!!!

My car is a new one.

Doing it myself cost less than 75 euros. Had the bolt come out easily, it would have taken half an hour at the most. Six T30 screws to remove the undertray, one 13mm bolt to undo and a strap wrench to remove the filter. It really isn't at all difficult.

Interesting that you use 0w20, our cars use 5w20 and I think cars running zero weight oils tend to  use more of the stuff.

I have a warranty duration of 8 years!

I like doing the services by my own but warranty cancels if something goes wrong!

My car has a label on the front side under bonnet that writes ''recommended oil 6,2lt 0W20 WSS-M2C952-A1'' and something like that.

Ah, that explains a lot. You don't have a Fiesta. I' m not surprised your warranty is eight years if they can charge you that for an oil change. Ours is three.

Pollen filter took a couple of minutes. Square cover on console by clutch pedal. Lever off with trim tool T30 and pull the piece thus released towards the front of the car or you will bust the top clip.  T25 torx, two low down to release the cover.

Old one was used but not used up.

Oil. I changed the filter as well. There are lots of debates about oil levels and I wanted to get mine right. The minimum figure I read was 4.1 litres so I filled from a calibrated jug three lots of one litre and one of 1100ml, reckoning I would be about 20-30 ml low as there is always a bit left in the jug. I ran the engine for a minute and came back next morning. The level between the notches was at about 3/4 so I added150 ml and that was right at the bottom of the upper notch.

Good for you!!!

Your know how to maintain your car and that is a skill that a lot of people have not!!!

Moved the tyres front to back. I love elegant engineering. The nuts are threaded deeply enough to secure the space saver, too. You don't get that with a Merc or BMW. Better still is the wheel race which has a left handed thread on the effort end so that the towing eye can be screwed on for increased leverage should the nuts be very tight.

Although the oil level was good before, the car seems quieter for the oil change.
