Key locked in car

Featured Replies

Twice in the last12 months I’ve managed to lock my key in the car.  I’m not sure how this occurred, and was under the impression that it should not be possible.  I was only able to gain entry using the spare key.

Does anyone know what I may have done -  so I don’t do it again.

Many thanks

You may have forgotten to take the key out of the car with you when you got out of it.

I didn't think it was possible.   I've left my key in the car on a couple of occasions but, if I do, the door won't lock.

I've left mine in the car, and the doors haven't locked on me either, not sure why yours has done this🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Hello Liz, firstly I'm going to assume you have keyless lock/unlock and that you are locking the door by touching the door handel.

As the guys have already said it is normally impossible to lock the key in the car and I can only think of two possibilites. (A) When you have locked the key inside, you had the key inside a purse/wallet/handbag/Faraday pouch,  that was preventing the car from detecting the key and therefore it allowed the doors to lock. Or (B) you have a fault with one of the internal aerial detectors inside the car. I'm not sure how many detectors are fitted in your car, but some models have as many as five. If you had a defective detector then it would be possible to place the key in a position inside the car that the system would not see.

Would love to know the answer to this so if you do get to the bottom of the problem please get back and post the solution.

Perhaps you have Keyless entry unticked in the menu ?

A faulty key with a low battery might not register with the BCMI which contains the access control  circuit. Have you ever had a ' no key detected' warning?

I have left my keys in the car and the doors have locked and I can also lock my car with the keys inside the car.

Ford App allows the unlocking and locking of the doors remotely if necessary.

If I didn't have the Ford app handy, I guess I would have to use the spare key to unlock the doors.
