Fiesta Zetec 08 Idle problems

Featured Replies

Hi guys, new here.

the car is a Fiesta Zetec 08 plate, petrol

im just after some advice, basically my fiesta will start when I turn the key but immediately dies..if I start it and Rev it and hold the revs, it stays running but as soon as it let off the peddle, it’s cuts out again.

any advice is greatly appreciated.

A common cause for this is a Dirty throttle body and maf sensor. Might be worth giving them a clean 🙂

See this was one of my thinking, my GF dad think it’s the crankshaft sensor or idle control valve..or worse case..fuel pump is faulty..could these be worth cleaning/checking?

Always worth checking idle control valve 👍

No without sound dumb. Do you have a picture showing where all these parts are? 😐

Hi, i have circled the location of the throttle body. This can be found under the plastic intake pipe. Please see the video I have linked as well as this shows how to remove the throttle body and MAF sensor and then you are able to clean/replace them when they are off (

The Idle Air Control Valve is usually located on the intake manifold near the back of the throttle body and looks something like this

Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you so much! If this doesn’t sort this out, if I plug in my OBD device will it tell me what is the problem?

@spaxboyzi think I’ve found the problem. Is this an air hose or an oil hose.

As oil isn't coming out, it is probably air but once it is replaced, the car will 99.9% certainly be fine again.  Good spot!

@anonthanks man. I have found it to be the oil breather pipe. But finding a replacement! Impossible

Not really. Any piece of suitable pipe will do.Use your noddle. A piece of plumbing copper inserted in the breather pipe (cut the pipe, put in the repair part, add a couple of Ty raps) will do.

Just wrapping some insulation tape or gaffer tape round it will probably do for now. I had a split air pipe on a focus which I put tape on. When I sold the car 3 or 4 years later it still had the tape on as I had not got round to doing a better repair

I think thats an air hose, that would defo mess up the idle issue. It can be patched with some tape but the pipe itself isnt too expensive. If patching make sure the tape is tight and has sufficent 'tack' to hold. Would recommend duck tape or gorrilla tape.

sorry for my slow reply 🙂

Glad I could be some help 👍

Well I found a breather pipe…replaced it…start the engine and it does straight away after start 😞

Then you haven't replaced it properly and have dislodged something else is the 90% probability or you have another fault which we are unable to diagnose without a proper DTC 10%.

Well have progress..I sprained all the sensors etc started the engine..it idles…but won’t Rev above 2000..I forgot to plug the throttle body back in…plugged it back and started the car…it goes straight back to cutting out after you start.

also, have plugged my OBD in and no faults come up

A sprained sensor is likely to be problematic.

You need the proper diagnostic tool. Yours thinks nothing is wrong. You know better.

hi im in the same boat as the poster but with a 2004 fiesta does the car idling with out the throttle body plugged in indicate what the problem might be  .i did have the split crankcase hose problem but it hasn't solved the no idle
