Brake Judder but only at 40mph

Featured Replies

Hey all!

My Fiesta's slowly developed a slight judder whilst braking, but only when I've been travelling at higher speeds 60/70mph and then only when it goes past the crucial speed of 40/45mph. If I've been travelling at 40mph itself and brake I don't get the issue, it's only when I've been going at higher speeds. It happens both when the car is in gear and out.

Doesn't tend to affect me much because I like to anticipate traffic behaviour ahead of time so I can just ease off the gas (gotta save money on new brakes somehow!) but obviously sometimes you need to slow down fairly quick! And I'm worried the fault could develop into something more serious (and expensive).

From what I remember, my local garage will look to find the issue for around £50, is this a reasonable price these days?

Thanks!

Any problem brake related needs to be looked at immediately.Take it to a trusted local garage and get the issue resolved👍

Judder under braking can have multiple different causes, yours could be a matter of wheel balance from the symptoms.  Swap the tyres front to back and if that has no effect then it will be a warped disc. Warped discs are usually noticeable at lower speeds which is why I am suggesting moving the tyres.

Just thought I'd update for anyone having similar issues who might find this thread.

My local garage found slight warping in my discs which was causing the juddering at really specific speeds when braking.

New set of discs and pads later and all was fine!
