Stiff gear change when warm

Featured Replies

Hello there, I’m hoping someone could shine some light on an issue I’m having with my Ford Focus 2012 1.6 diesel 6 speed manual.

Changing gear is fine when cold, but once I’ve driven the car for 20 minutes or so, I will go to change into first or second and the gears are very stiff and again into third, but passed that it’s fine, so it only becomes stiff in first, second and third. This is very strange as it’s usually the case that it’s stiff when cold but this only appears to occur when the car has warmed up. The clutch seems to be fine so I can’t see it being an issue with that.

My only assumption is it could have something to do with the linkages but it’s hard to figure out if it is as it only appears with the engine is hot.

If anyone has come across this or has any idea as to what this could be or how to fix the problem it’s be most appreciated,

thanks Jacob
