Two Q's about under the bonnet of a MK4 Focus.

Featured Replies

What you are seeing is the view under the bonnet of the 1.5 diesel, RHD.

Q1) Yellow linked squares, top left. Whey has the 1.5D got two coolant bottles?

Q2) Yellow/Orange square on the right. What is this connector for? It has 3 wires going into the bottom, but nothing on the connector that unplugs from the top!

The plug that goes into the connector is probably just a blank to keep dirt/water out of the socket, looks are shared by the different models so some cars will have lots of unsure connectors.

Answer (1) The symbols on the cap are: "Caution" - "Hot" - "Read the Manual"

Answer (2) I don't know other that it will be used on vehicles with diffrent options. For example LED headlights.

I've no idea what the connector is for, I have that same blank plug on my 1.5 Petrol Titanium that has a few extras including Bliss and front parking sensors, so it is not for that engine or the extras that I have.

So there’s a coolant reservoir and an engine coolant overflow reservoir. Seems strange. Why is it needed on this car and not others. Did Ford forget to make the reservoir big enough. Can iantt explain it?

Yes I can explain.

Oh, you actually want me to explain. The intake air charge cooler( intercooler) has its own cooling system independent from the main engine cooling system. Has its own radiator and electric coolant pump.

The connector I've had a look and it's an odd one. Says connector is evac and fill. Basically there 2 can bus wires and a ground.

Blimey, cars are getting even more complicated.

Hello, does anyone know how to bleed this system when changing the antifreeze?

Well the title refers to a Mk4 but your profile says that you have a Mk3. Either way the system is best filled under vacuum to avoid airlocks, a process that many garages have the equipment to do.

Hi, I also have a Focus mk3, there is a YouTube video for it, but for my new Focus MK4 1.5 tdci I can't find any information anywhere.  There are two antifreeze tanks and I don't understand how it works.  That's why I asked here if anyone knows.

Hi everyone, do you happen to know where you can find a video or a guide on how to disassemble and clean the EGR valve?  Thanks
