Unusual diagnosis needed

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I hope that someone can help me with my Galaxy. I'll list out the symptoms and what I've done and after that any help is really appreciated.

1.8 TDCI

Airbag light on.

No backlights working on main console (speed/odemeter).

Main lights switch not working

Both fogs not working.

Dips now come on automatically when engine started.

Can't change dips to heads etc.

When remote locking car, indicators don't flash but do for unlocking......

Cabin lights remaining on for a long time after locking the car, compared to normal timeout.

I slow charged the battery.

Disconnected the battery for an hour.

Still the same.

Any ideas.

Thank you in advance

Jarlath

The BCM is/has failed.

Not sure of the location on your model but normally the Body Control Module is part of the main passenger fusebox located behind the glovebox.

The Galaxy is not know for BCM water ingress but it is a common problem on many Ford models of similar age.

Disconnect the negative lead from your battery before beginning to pull the plugs out of the BCM panel.

Look for signs of greenish corrosion on the connector pins and any dampness.

Thanks for the update for my problem.

Would it be something I can clean off myself on the connectors or will it need;

A clearance on the fault codes by a garage.

Or will I need to order a new BCM?

Thanks again

Jarlath

It depends what the problem with the BCM is. If it is corrosion issues then it might be possible to clean it up with a Fibre Glass Pen and some IPA.

However if things are too bad then you may have to source a secondhand unit from a scrapyard. If you have to change the BCM then it will need programmed back in to the car.
