Sync 3 issues on 2017 Transit Connect

Featured Replies

got a friend who has started having issues with the Sync 3 system installed in his 2017 Transit Connect - symptoms are:

1. will randomly switch to the backup camera
2. extremely slow to respond to touchscreen inputs
3. navigation stops working

It was running software version 2.2 build 16280 and we upgraded it to 3.0 build 20204 yesterday - it initially looked fine, but the issues have come back today - we have also tried a master reset without luck.

Any suggestions appreciated on how to fix, or are we looking have having to replace the Sync 3 hardware (bad news, it is out of warranty). If it has to be replaced then any suggestions on a specialist to use (he is located near Heathrow Airport, W. London)

thanks, Mark

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. It sounds like the Sync 3 has not fully initialised after the update.

yes - it was giving the same issues before the update (Ford dealer suggested the update to see if that would fix it)

Well I would say you now have nothing to loose by using the Cyanlabs software and do a complete format of the system and use the Cyanlabs fully automatic install of the sync 3. I have used their up dates on my Focus Mk4 and found them to be easier, faster and more reliable than the Ford site. At the end of the day it is the exact same software from both, just packaged differently.

use the special format software first, then install a fresh version of Sync3.

thanks for that info - will have a read of their website. If that doesn't sort it then guessing the APIM is failing and he will have to find a replacement - will any Sync 3 APIM with Nav work or does it have to be the specific part number?

Swapping the APIM comes with a few issues but it can be done. You need one of a similar age, but not older than what you have.

There are many on the forum who have thought that their APIM was 'bricked' but after being able to do a format and reinstall the system has come back to life.
