Focus MK2 remote key fob 2006

Featured Replies

Hi all, apologies if this has been covered but I can't find the answer to my specific issue.

Bought a focus MK2 recently knowing the remote fob didn't work because the owner said the battery needed replacing. It opens the door otherwise through manual operation. So I changed the battery and hit the buttons with no luck. I've tried the key turning ignition trick (mentioned on this forum) that hasn't worked as I don't get the 2nd beep or tone to confirm the key has been programmed.

I did notice when I changed the battery and opened the drivers door manually the immobilizer kicked in making the ping sound and it went off when the key was inserted in to the ignition. When I open the boot or any other the door (prior to opening the drivers door) the alarm goes off with hazards flashing until I insert the key in to the ignition.

Any advice appreciated

Hello Shakir, only 3 possible answers that I can think of:

(a) your new battery is rubbish or fitted wrong. Test it with a volt meter and it should be about 3.3V

(b) the key needs programmed in to the car and you need to do the sequence correctly to make that work.

(c) the key is broken and you need to buy a new one.

Thanks, I'll get the battery checked, as for the sequencing guess I'm going to require some patience and if that fails like you say the key needs replacing.

Dont know If this is relevant but I tried the spare key and the alarm seemed to reset itself after unlocking the car.

An update on this, thankfully got it sorted by locksmith. The circuit and case was replaced including a new chip which was programmed to the car using software. He did attempt to remove the old chip but it had been soldered on and didn't want to damage it. All in all a 10 minute job for the guy!

C'mon buddy, what did he charge? I wanted to get a 'spare' key for my Focus on 1st buying 2 years ago, but Timpsons quote of £240 still has me laughing!

@StephenFord He charged £65 in total, NW Auto Lock only covers Lancashire and outskirts of Manchester though.
