Can anyone identify this aftermarket stereo?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

A bit of a long shot this but I was wondering if anyone could identify this aftermarket stereo I bought on Facebook Marketplace?
I’ve attached a couple of pictures. The seller said he didn’t know the brand as he bought it off eBay for around £300. He had it fitted in a ‘Ford estate’ and it slotted straight into my 2007 Focus Zetec (I had a 6000CD stereo before).
There is no brand on the packaging or the manual but it looks like a Windows CE from the manual.
I’d like to get the model name so I can find out a bit more about it (to see if I can mirror link with my iPhone for instance - the manual isn’t that helpful.)

I’m clueless about these things so thanks in advance!

If you go into the menu then you will be able to see an 'about' option, this will show you the information. What stickers were on the device itself?

They're all the same stereo that's turfed out the same factory in China, just some say pumpkin, Eonon or xtrons on the front.

Unfortunately the windows CE models are a bit 💩 compared to the modern android equivalents, and it reached end of life back in 2018. I don't think it has the capability to do apple car play etc.

Joying or xtrons, looking at the

interface , windows os, although most of the newer ones are android

Until approximately 2010 Windows CE was used by almost all of the Chinese manufacturers of aftermarket car audio systems. Most of these systems are based on an unlicensed, heavily modified version of Windows CE. Most devices have a 2nd dedicated OS that controls the radio, CD and USB functionality.

Since most manufacturers stopped producing the Windows CE devices years ago there are no recent software updates or support. Apart from this there is also no community that develops apps and updates for these devices.

To be honest the Windoes CE devices are quite outdated. Do not expect functionality like mirror link. If you want such functionality you should buy a modern Android device

Thanks for the help guys.
The about section has the following codes listed: HMI, MCU, MEDIA, NKV, BTV and DVDROM.

I have the option to connect a phone via a USB but I need to select USB debug for it to work and this doesn’t appear to be an option on Apple phones. I think it’s designed for Androids. If anyone knows a workaround please let me know 🙂

EDIT: Oh and there were no stickers on the stereo itself if I recall correctly.

Simply put Windows based systems and Apple based system very rarely if ever work together.

They are designed by both sides to be as difficult as possible to interface.

iOS and Windows rarely work well together as @unofixsays. That's one of the reasons I always get an android phone, can't stand the proprietary demands of Apple.

My advice would be to get an aftermarket unit that is apple compatible, or if you are near renewal then get an Android phone next 🤷‍♂️ If you are keen for all the bells and whistles then you will need a more modern unit.

That will not work.

This USB dongle is only suitable for an android audio system and requires an Android app (APK) to be installed on the audio system.
