I've sheared the cylinder head cover bolts - where can I buy new ones?

Featured Replies

I used the improper torque wrench on the cylinder head cover bolts and have sheared 2 of them rather idioticly. Luckily I've removed them from the threads with a pair of molegrips, and the thread appears undamaged, as they sheared at the top of the shank on the un-threaded part.

I need to reattach the cover so I can use the car for work in a couple of days but I cannot find any replacement bolts for these on google...does anyone know anywhere I can get these bolts quickly? They are flanged 7/32" hex bolts with a overall length of around 2", where the threaded part is 1/2".

Thank you for your time

Hello Nick,

your local Ford main dealers workshop have boxes full of bolts. I would be surprised if the size is 7/32" as all European Fords use metric.

Just tried some other bolts and you're right! It's actually an M5 bolt, 43mm long so I'm going to pick up some M5 x 45mms from a local fastener shop tomorrow. Thanks for your wise words!
