Issue after application of recall 21E10

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My car went in to have it's aircon fixed last week at which time the dealer applied a firmware update 21E10. From what I understand this applies to the Powertrain Control Module and is designed to improve emissions of higher mileage vehicles.

My car is a 2018 Fiestra 120ps Diesel.

Since the update has been applied the stop/start function has stopped working - it was fine before. When I start off all is well, but when I come to a junction and shift in to netural and lift the clutch, the engine continues running and the button to disable the start/stop function by the drivers seat lightes up indicating the system is off.

From this point no matter how many times I press it, the disable button stays illuminated. The only way to get it to go out is to stop and start the engine.

If I look in vehicle setting>information>stop start the system tells me the enginge is running beacuse the vehicle is manoeuvring. I can not find any reference to this message in any of the Ford manuals I have looked at or mention of it on any forums.

Apart from the above issue the vehicle seems fine.

It's going back in later this week to get the issue investigated, but wondered if anyone else has seen this before, espically after the application of the update.

Thanks for any help!

Regards,

Gloomy

Ok, I will give you the short and to the point answer, your battery "State Of Charge" is low.

Correctly charge the battery overnight for at least 12 hours and the normal reliability of the Stop/Start will be restored.

Great......... my Focus goes in on Wednesday for the same update.

Already having second thoughts about it going in and now this !

Hope you get it sorted asap

Hi Everyone,

Just an update on this one:

The Ford dealer has had the vehicle in a number of times. A new battery was fitted to eliminate any state of charge issue, which other people have mentioned.

Their Mastertech has spent a couple of days on the fault, but in the end he had to contact Ford Technical to try and get an anwer.

Their answer: It is a software issue related to the 21E10 update. Only very few vehicles - numbering single figures, accoring to the dealer, have suffered this issue and "they are all the same type", so I would assume that means they are all Diesels.

We are now waiting on Ford to come up with a fix. With such a small number of vehicles suffering from this fault, I suspect their might be quite a wait as I amsure they have bigger fish to fry.

But if anyone else out there gets this issue, you know why!

All the best.

Gloomy
