Fiesta Mk6 '07. Central locking and external passenger mirror issues

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Quite a while since I have been in a fiesta forum, mk3 days are long gone.

A family member has a 2007 1.4 duratec Fiesta, the durashift model...! Anyways I am having trouble diagnosing two faults on it which I am hoping somebody could shed light on one or both for me.

1. The passenger mirror is not moving with the internal switch. I have replaced the switch itself as well as the mirror and the same issue persists. I can get the mirror heating to work but not the mirror adjustment. Fuses all seem okay, are there any common issues with door looms breaking etc?

2. The central locking will work 1 in 10 times on average when you want to lock yourself in from the inside, by pressing the drivers handle in all the doors should lock. It did have an intermittent issue with the "driver's door open" warning but I sprayed in contact cleaner to the lock which looks to have fixed that. It is very frustrating to not have the ability to lock all the doors from the inside from just the one handle, just from a safety point of view is all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, the Mk6 has long moved on from the "simple" days of the mk3!

Is this a 3 door or 5 door model ?

AND ......

if it is the 5 door model, does it have electric windows on the back doors ?

Nice bit of info I forgot to add! It is the 5 door model, only has power windows on the front though. The rears are keep fit manual ones!

OK thanks for that, it makes a difference as to what is controlling the door mirror etc.

As far as I know models that don't have electric windows in the back, the door mirrors are controlled by the BCM (body control module). There is a known problem on certain models and a 2007 Fiesta would be one of them with water getting in to the connectors of the BCM causing corrosion of the pins and the actual circuit board. All sorts of weird and unpredictable faults occur when the BCM or the connectors become wet.

Disconnect the battery negative lead before you start pulling the connectors off the BCM (which is part of the fusebox in the passenger side footwell behind the glovebox).

This model of Fiesta has a GEM separate to the fusebox, the control is just done with the power mirror adjust switch, no GEM functionality.
From what you've changed it only leaves the wiring and as you suggest, its probably a broken wire in one of the door looms.

Re the locking, does it have remote central locking?

Interesting. Another two avenues to search. I have had many issues with wiring looms in the VW group so I may bite the bullet and just start down both the BCM and wiring route.

For the central locking, I do have the remote. So when pressing lock on the remote from outside I never have any issue (apart from when the driver's door open issue was present). When I lock the car outside all the handles inside move in as they should, however when in the car if you press the drivers door handle in, only it moves and none of the rest do. The very odd time it will work, and work perfect for a couple of tries, but then it will stop working for days on end. Would it be the microswitch in the door lock itself overriding the ability for all the other doors to lock?

The door locking is an odd one, if it didn't lock properly with the key but OK with the remote I'd say it was the Lock assembly lock switch sticking.

If you're going to investigate the mirrors the attached should help you.
