So I’m really expecting the worst with my 1.0 eco boost engine, but I figure that I’ll explain my whole situation on here first just in case someone has had the same problem and there is a chance of a solution! On Saturday I was driving home and I heard a Big Bang, but I wasn’t sure whether it was me because nothing changed with how the car drove or any other differences, 2 days later I’m nearly back from a long drive and notice my turbo isn’t kicking in, as I got closer to home my brake pedal suddenly went rock hard and was working at 10% of usual performance, next I get a brief oil warning telling me to pull over so I do, after getting and putting in oil I attempt to get the car home even though my brakes and turbo are still not functional, half way back the engine starts making awful noises and the oil warning re appears so I’ve left my car in that spot until now. I’m assuming that the engine is kaput and won’t be able to get it checked at an engine specialist until earliest 10th jan, but if anyone knows anything else or has anything to say then please do! Oil pump crossed my mind, say if the oil wasn’t being sent round the engine correctly but that is a wild guess. Thanks for your time and Merry Christmas!

A lot of professional mechanics I know call these 'Eco-Boom' engines, as, once they get around or over 70k miles they have been known to detonate. These 'wet belt' engines have a poor reputation I am afraid. I understand though, if you can prove its been serviced correctly, Ford, outside warranty, are replacing these as it is something they are aware of if you make enough of a nuisance of yourself. I hope it isn't terminal for you, but sounds pretty catastrophic from the symptoms you state. I can never understand how such a fantastic engine as the Zetec can then move on to this next generation. Just an opinion I guess. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I would like to say "don't worry" but I can't. My gut feeling is you have joined the long list of owners who have a scrap 1.0 ecoboost engine on their hands.

The oil light is a warning of failed oil pressure not oil level. The 1.0 ecoboost has many problems with lubrication or should we say lack of it.

Brand new 1.0 ecoboost engine from Ford is £2500 plus about £1200 to £1400 to fit. Not worth fitting a second hand engine as you will save about £1000, and have no warranty and the replacement could easy fail again in no time.
