Bulb recommendations for h/lamps 2018 1.0 ecoboost

Featured Replies

Headlamps are not great on this car. Are there any bulbs you can recommend that would be brighter. I dont want to go down the HID route as I have been told that they are MOT failures. Thanks.

You are right retro-fitting HID or LED bulbs will fail an MOT. Your best bet is buy a high percentage halogen bulb. Osram Nightbreakers or Philips Extreme (or whatever they are called now) are probably your best bet for legal high output. These claim to give 130-200% more light. You can buy coated bulbs which give a much whiter light (Osram White-vision) but will not give as much light as those high performance bulbs.

The only downsides (apart from high price) is they don't last as long as standard bulbs. The original Nightbreakers had a reputation of doing just that, breaking at night! However I think the life has improved since then.

I think the headlamp is a H7?

I have not changed mine, but as far as I know dipped beam is H7. For main (high) beam check owners manual or the 'pinned' thread about bulbs.

You can buy these performance bulbs from Euro Car Parts (check for discount codes) or places like Powerbulbs which I've used in the past.

Halfords '150% brighter' H7s aren't bad if you're on a budget.

Big note, too- you can just, JUST get the bulbs in and out without taking out the whole headlight, which can be a nightmare!

Pretty much-and there is also a locating pin on the underside- BUT, the unit is very difficult to get in and out of the aperture. Again,- you can JUST change the bulbs with the unit still in situ. (This also saves the very real possibility of breaking the top plastic bracket on the light unit, which is already a known weak spot that can break on it's own, let alone when pulled about!)

I will have a look if theres room to change them without removing the unit.
