Bleeding coolant system

Featured Replies

The oil cooler on my 1.4 tdci fusion is weeping a little bit. I have ordered new seals but I have no idea what the coolant bleeding procedure is can anyone advise please? thanks

generally i would have thought run car (whilst static parked) with expansion bottle cap removed and air should rise to the top of system.

waterpump should force coolant around the system.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had a Peugeot 207 a few years ago same engine but it was a pig to bleed, sealed pipe into the header tank etc thats why im asking

From the service manual.

Thank you thats good information. Im not sure if I have to drain the system to change the oil cooler seals I have a ford focus manual but where? The car had a new timing belt water pump etc last year so id like to avoid losing the coolant does your manual say if it needs drained for the oil cooler? thanks again Paul

The oil cooler is quite low down so you will have to drain some coolant.  As it's still fairly new though, you can just drain it into a clean container and put it back in afterwards.
