Wing mirrors- advice needed

Featured Replies

Blacking out wing mirrors, as I don’t like the factory red, should I

1.vinyl wrap them whilst unremoved

2.remove cover and vinyl wrap and then reattach

3.remove cover and spray paint

On my focus I removed the covers and sprayed them with plastidip.

Okay, thankyou I’m going to go with : primer then paint then clear laquer , what did you do?

I didn't use a primer, just gave a good clean with IPA then applied 4 coats of plastidip followed by 2 coats of clear lacquer

Okay cheers, how long ago did you do it and have they started peeling at all or shown signs of wear etc

I don't have the car anymore, I had them painted up and on the car for about 18mnths before I sold it and there was no noticeable wear at all. I did do my lower grill at the same time and that didn't last more then 12m.

The grill definitely needs to be wrapped, I've wrapped the grill on my Merc and it's been great. I did it 12m ago and it's got no signs of wear, also had the roof, spoiler, window chrome and B pillars wrapped in matt black and they still look great too.

Sounds boss that, in two minds about getting grill stuff wrapped professionally as it’s a bit of a hassle with the black edition zetec s, what merc is that on? Sounds like a nice car

The grill can be a nightmare on the Zetec S, but if you can remove it then it makes it a lot easier. I took the grill off my Mk5 Mondeo and wrapped it quite easily.

My current car is an A180 sport

Nice car, and yeah the honeycomb grill is prone to snapping etc when removing , very brittle and awkward to access underside part of grill as wel
