Management Light and DTC without motor Running : DPF issue ?

Featured Replies

Hello,
First of all I wish you all a Happy New Ford Year.
My name is Johan, I've got a question, hope somebody can help me out.
I have a Transit 2014 , 2.2Liter 155hp. The Engine light is on, the motor has limited power.  DTC error 246C and 2463 : Soot Load DPF issue.  So probably i need an new DPF or have it Cleaned. But what I don't understand is how the systems knows that there is a lot of soot in the DPF without motor ignited. Even when i delete the DTC (FORSCAN) Engine ligth MIL comes instant back within a few seconds without a running motor.  (Open Loop  DPF Soot 203%, closed Loop DPF Load 150%) Is it that system remembers the amount of SOOT without a running motor ? Can this figure/number be deleted for a while?
I Tried to manually regen (FORSCAN) , but that stops at 12%. Temperature EG11 ~250 to 300 g/C so that's seems to be too low for burning Soot. (Code 244C)
Don't understand why it doesn't perform the REGEN.

Hope somebody can give me a few tips. (I already decided to go to the Dealer but maybe some of you have an Idea what i still could try  😉 )

Attached a few screenshots and Data.

Thanks in Advance,

Johan

This trick woks to erase some DPF fault codes on the Mk2 Focus with a 1.6 Tdci engine that can't be erased like the ones you have. It may not work on your engine but will cost you nothing to try.

Unplug the MAF Sensor and start the engine. Stop the engine and there will be new codes for the MAF as well. Clear all the codes and the DPF ones might be erased as well when you start the engine if this trick works with your engine as well.

I don't have any experience with your engine but if it has a Fuel Vaporiser for DPF Regeneration then this is likely to be blocked and causing all the problems. I believe it can be checked by trying to blow down it, google or Ford Forums should show some more information on this.

The Soot Loads are  theoretical values, not real measured ones. There should be a PID for the Differential Pressure across the DPF and this is more useful for diagnosis. If it too high then the car may not allow a Regeneration to take place.

There should be a Service Procedure to clear the Learned Values for the Differential Pressure Sensor or Soot Load, it might be a good idea to try this first.

Hi Tizer, thanks for your answer. I wil soon try the MAF sensor trick you explained. I don't know if the DPF has a Fuel vaporiser. It has a tube connected in the middle of the DPF, but that doesn't look like a vaporizer or something. I think it is a tube for the Diff. Pressure sensor. The workplace manual doesn't tell something about a vaporizer.

Within Forscan there is a procedure to clear Learned Values for the DPF but i am a bit holding back there because i don't know what the consequences of using this procedure are. The DPF is mostlikely filled with Soot, and maybe the system thinks after a Clearing Procedure that the existing Soot load is the new reference.
Do you have experience with that?

Kind regards,

Johan

Google is your friend, I did a quick search and this is the first video that came up, there will be others and they may be better.  The guy sounds like a bit of a prat but it is informative. That car had a 2.2 engine and it did have a Vaporiser, so your one will probably have one too, you will be able to check if your one is the same after watching the video.

Resetting the learned values should not do any harm and may clear the fault code, but they will go back up the next time you run your engine. After the fault has been fixed and DPF cleaned the values would need to be reset again. The MAF trick, if it works on your engine, may not be required.

Hi Tizer, the trick to erase the codes did not work out. But gave me the right leads anyway.  I watched some YouTube videos. Most probably it is a filty vaporizer that has to be renewed. I performed a kind of pressure test and it seems to be clogged. So I will go to the workshop to renew the vaporizer.
So thank you very much !

If you can get the vapouriser out without damaging it, you can unblock them .
