Custom Active, front interior light not when open door

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just purchased a transit custom active and when I open the front door the interior light doesn’t come on. If I put the switch on the light to permanent the light comes on, but when I put the switch to the centre position it doesn’t light when the door is open.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I am missing?

Thanks for your help,

Cheers,

Jon

Should work. Is it the same with the passenger door? Does the light not come on when you switch ign off after a drive.

Centre position is 'Off'

Switch fully one way is light on all the time, then the switch fully the other way is light on when door is open.

The light doesn’t come on when I unlock the door, turn off the ignition or open either door.

I am sure I have tried the switch in both positions but I will try again, just to be sure

Also, does the instrument cluster show a door open when either doors are open?

The instrument cluster does show the doors are open, it is just the lamp doesn’t turn on unless I put the switch to permanent.

It is a strange one and I can’t see why.

You don’t need to see what you are doing in the front of the van 🤣

Is the lamp like this one?

Door closed and door open

Also is it both lamps not working?

Hi Ian,

No this is the light I have. When I open either door nothing comes on, but the dashboard tells me the door is open. If I move the switch to the right then the light comes on permanently.

if I press either map light button the appropriate light comes on.

Cheers,

Jon

Interior lights are more complicated than you might think.

On 11/16/2020 at 8:26 PM, JW1982 said:

On the Focus MK3/MK3.5 the interior lights are controlled by the BCM by a single wire LINbus network (one way communication). The BCM (LINbus master module) communicates to the front interior light (LINbus slave module). The front interior light also has a 2nd single wire LINbus network to control the rear interior light. The front interior light (LINbus master module) communicates to the rear interior light (LINbus slave module).

BCM (master) --> front interior light (slave) --> front interior light (master) --> rear interior light (slave)

If the interior light remains active while there is no open door warning and the switches are in the correct position the problem can either be a defective BCM or a defective front interior light.

Hi Ellis,

all my other lights worked for me, it was just the front light that didn’t.

I put it into the garage i purchased the van from and they resolved the problem for me, when I collected the van the mechanic wasn’t there and the service desk couldn’t tell me what they did to resolve it.

So I am unable to tell you what they did sorry.

Cheers,

Jon.

Hi,

I also have no interior lighting working when doors open, does anyone have a fix for this?

Hi Stuart,

That was the same symptoms I had, the garage resolved it for me, but when I picked the van up the tech wasn’t there to tell me what it was.

So I can’t help with the resolution.

Did anyone get the answer to this light only works on opening doors with ignition on 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi Paul,

You problem sounds different to mine, my light didn’t work at all unless I manually switched it on, turning the ignition on didn’t make any difference to me.

It was a pain that service couldn’t tell me what they did to fix the problem when I collected my van, so I can’t tell you what solved my problem
