Spare wheel & tyre for 2018/JHH Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi

I've managed to get the B&O subwoofer etc out of the spare wheel well of my 2018 1.0 ecoboost Fiesta and now I'm trying to work out what size spare wheel & tyre I can throw in there.

If I look on tyre label inside the driver side door it shows my standard tyre size of 195/55R16 87V. There is also a smaller tyre (175/65R14) option at the base of the label which I'm led to believe is the size of the standard spare tyre for the car. Is this correct?

I can get the same make/model of tyre that are currently on the 16" rims in size 175/65R14 86 but I'm not sure how to go about making sure I get the right 14" rim for the car.

Apart from the number of stud holes, what parameters should I be looking at to make sure that I get the correct wheel? Apart from the rim size the only other info I can find is it may have a stud pattern of 4x108 but I'm not sure what that means.

Will a 14" wheel even fit on my car which has 16" rims? I understand that the ride quality will be affected but this is only for use in emergencies (no more than 50mph) but is a better option than the tyre sealant kit that's currently in the car as I'm heading on a long road trip in some remote areas

Alternatively would I be better off going for some kind of 15" or 16" space saver wheel and tyre combo that seem to be fitted with 125/80R15 rubber (of unknown origin)?

Thanks for any guidance on helping find a spare, steel wheel that will fit on my hubs.

Hi Matthew,

Short answer - yes it is. The standard spare is the 175/65 14 as the base of the label shoes, and I think others have said before, that it's fairly easy to locate one plus tools on eBay. Some Ford dealers may be able to help too.

Hi wordchild, sorry, I just finished editing my post as I hit submit by mistake way too early...

Thanks for the info, I'm happy enough with the spare tyre size. I'm just not sure how to make sure I get the right rim for the car so that the stud holes all line up and nothing is rubbing where it shouldn't be rubbing.

Look on eBay for a fiesta 14” spare wheel.

The wheel you want has been in use on fiestas since 2002 . It looks like this https://www.onbuy.com/gb/ford-fiesta-2010-steel-wheel-single-hankook-1756514~c9793~p44515693/?condition=used&exta=gshp&stat=eyJpcCI6NDYsImRwIjpudWxsLCJsaWQiOjU4ODc2NzQzLCJzIjpudWxsLCJ0IjoxNjQwOTQxOTE3LCJibWMiOjB9&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsa7RnpWT9QIVRIXVCh3XiQCiEAQYBiABEgJdlfD_BwE      It might not have a sticker on as it was used on some as the standard 4 wheels not just a spare.    4    108 means 4 nuts and diagonal distance of hole centres is 108mm.   On eBay you sometimes get these with unused tyres on as fiestas up to about 2008 all came with spares in the boot as standard.  Some of these unused tyres will now be quite old but won’t have weathered too badly if it the boot it’s whole life.   Car tyres have date of manufacture moulded into one side. It is 4 digits and is week and year eg 5008 is week 50 of 2008 so December 2008. Don’t forget you need a tyre without a direction arrow on it.

So are the 14" wheels for the Fiesta fairly independent of the car's year?

I've looked on ebay and see plenty of options (if I was in the UK) but not so many where I am in Euroland so I was going to try to pick up a new steel wheel and tyre.

The image below shows what I think should fit based on the spares I've seen on ebay (and the 'official' Ford steel wheel) but these aren't specifically for a 2018 JHH type Fiesta.

If a site specifies that a 14" wheel (with these dimensions) is for a FIESTA (JA8/JR8/FACELIFT) 2012 1.0 ECOBOOST (and a lot of other models), do you reckon it should bolt on to a 2018 (JHH) 1.0 ecoboost model? Then I can just throw a 175/65R14 tyre on it which are easy to find. Unfortunately their make/model filter doesn't show any 14" wheel options for the JHH model, presumably because they are only fitted with 15 - 17" rims from the factory.

I never thought finding a spare wheel would be so confusing... 🤪

I have the same size wheels as you and I have the space saver spare.   I can assure you that it fits and rides well up to 50.

Whilst it is a sort of space saver when put in the boot of cars with larger wheels, the term can be misleading as it’s not a skinny space saver. It is a full size wheel for some of the fiestas eg. Most of the fiestas between 2002-2005, the studio spec of the later cars and the econetic diesels eg my 2015 1.5tdci econetic style has 175 65 14 steel wheels on it.  Ford even supplied a spare as standard on that model with the spare being identical to the wheels on the car.  That’s certainly a rarity on cars of that age.

Hi Sharky

If a 175/65R14 86will fit in the wheel well (which I think people are suggesting is the case), is a 195/55R16 87V really too big??

But if you do need a smaller wheel/tyre for emergency use, I'd get a space saver.
