Hello from oz,question, when my lw focus is active in adaptive cruise control, and becomes active when approaching a vehicle and the brakes are applied by the software, does the stoplights come on?

Thank you,i have never seen the lights when activated of course.

You can usually see the reflection of the high level brake light in the rear window through the rear view mirror when driving in the dark.

You'll be able to see it just  before the collision avoidance kicks in and makes you jump!!! 😉

thank you

worth noting the example of "it sees traffic and brakes" can be a different feature

if you have set ACC (active cruise control - the sensible industry acronym), the more recent, better systems can indeed manage speed to the vehicles in front up to an including bringing the car to a complete stop.

but there are different safety features (which Euro NCP want mandatory for new cars in Europe) that can use adaptive radar - if fitted and or a cameras - its mostly called "city safety"

there is low speed budget idea up to 20mph than can run off parking sensors (and avoids 2k damage)
higher speed using more sophisticated stuff like radars and cameras up to around 55 mph
