Season's greetings.
Could anyone throw some light on why my mk5 2.5tdi camper starts instantly every time while touring but when parked on my steep drive it often has to be turned over 30 seconds plus to fire - then clouds of smoke. Van behaves perfectly otherwise 100k miles.
Thanks for any tips.

    Is it facing uphill?  Sounds like it's just struggling to pull the fuel up from the tank against gravity, especially with the extra viscosity when cold.  Maybe try parking the other way as a test?
