MK2 Zetec S -2010 -wet drivers footwell - checked all common problems but still leaking!

Featured Replies

Hi all - Im a newbie so please be gentle!

Bought a 2010 Zetec S last year which is mint and runs like a dream - however at end of October i foundwater in the drivers footwell and the rear passenger footwell. Off I Googled and checked the following:

1. Rear roof spoiler- removed it and sealed all the holes

2. Rear lights etc- these had been sealed before so put new sealant on them and only any bungs and gaps in the rear bumper

3. All rear boot weld seams - someone had previously sealed these so again - all resealed

Soaked the car a few times and the boot is bone dry and ive never had any more water in the rear footwell. However, the front drivers footwell is still getting wet when its been raining heavily.

Checked the a/c drain and its not blocked, where it is attached to the gearbox tunnel and added sealant, put paper under the heater as well to detect any leaks, removed the wipers and scuttle panel but as its a MK2, no obvious drain apart from the one in the centre of the scuttle.

Checked the bulkhead for any cracks (none obvious) , checked any bungs or seals . Hosed the car down and couldnt see any obvious drips and had carpet pulled back. The water is clear so not leaking from the matrix.

A few days of rain and again under the carpet was wet again! So i have established its not leaking from the rear , not leaking from the roof are or pillars but cant see water pouring in when its hosed.

Im stumped and its a great car (its the wifes) but this is driving me round the bend. Is there anything I could have missed? Help !

Is it possible the windscreen seal has broken down?

Hi mate I suppose it’s possible as where it’s wet it’s looking like it’s behind the dash. When weather is dry I’m going to pull the carpet back again and I’ll hose round all the seals . Wasn’t sure if I could just apply some clear silicone round it!
