ford fiesta mk7 titanium head unit upgarde

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I'm new here and would really like some advise if possabile. I have mk7 titanium with an old version of sync, i can control voulme etc on steering wheel controls and has voice on storck stick. after searching the net i found that i cannot call people hands free from my mobile as you need to save the name and number to the head unit.

Would it be possable to replace the unit with an updated mobile like sync 3. its a sony system.

any advise would be so helpful.

Can you pair your phone to the unit by bluetooth?

If your car is 2011 (pre-facelift) as your profile says then you won't have Sync at all.

Even if you did have Sync 1, it's not possible to fit Sync 3 as it was never fitted to the mk7 fiesta.

Do you have a display with your system? If it's red then it's not sync?

A note on Sync upgrades

The dashboard in the UK/EU models has a different design compared to the US models where Fiestas can be upgraded with OEM components + a custom cable harness and a little bit of dremel drill to remove the old Sync 1 supports. As a result MK7.5 (post face lift) with Sync 1 or 1.1 can not be upgraded easily to Sync 2 or 3 in UK/EU models. Later sync 2/3 systems do "work" but getting it fitted in nicely is where the issue lies.

There is a case of it been done in the UK but required a high level of determination and effort. It's the only example I've seen when I researched it and required custom moulded and sprayed plastic parts (see reddit thread).

Go into menu and download phonebook from your phone.

Hi thank you for info I have downloaded phone book from mobile all works for incoming calls but if I use voice control it says  Directory empty. From what I understand I have to tell the car all names by voice and number what a load of crap

In order to download the numbers to Sync, they need to be stored to the phone as contacts.  Please note that this is not the same as having them in your Google account (for Android phones, not sure what the iPhone equivalent is called).

For me, this meant going into the settings for my contacts, choosing 'Organise Contacts', then 'Copy Contacts' from the online account to the phone itself.

Once this is done, choose the option in Sync to download the phone book and the contacts should be available to the car (including voice dialing).

I have a US version of the 2011 Fiesta SES with Sync 1. Can this model be updated to Sync 3 or is this model also limited like the UK versions? Thanks to anyone who can help!
