MK7 Fiesta Condensation inside car - HELP

Featured Replies

Hi guys...

I'm having a few issues with my mum's 09 Fiesta. I'm finding condensation inside the car, mostly on the windscreen and the rear window, but a little on the side windows also.

I'm not entirely sure where i'm looking to see if there's leaks anywhere but the door seals all seem to be fine. The lining in the boot is soaked so I believe there is a leak around the boot somewhere... My partner and I have given the car a good clean as the car hadn't been cleaned for a very long time as well as putting some silicone spray around the door seals which helped for a day or two but then went back to square one...

I've also blasted the heating on full and put it on the windscreen and floors to dry it all out but with the moisture still getting in just gets damp the next day...

I'm not sure what else to do, can anyone suggest what else to do or advise on where I would take the car to get this sorted? I'm assuming a normal garage doesn't fix weather seals, but please correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks in advance!

Ideally you’d need to dry out the boot area completely then maybe strip the trim out and put a hosepipe over the back of the car.

With the interior dry you’ll get a better idea of where the water is coming in once you start to notice drips or water pooling.

Checking the Fiesta forums will probably help you then understand if this has been seen before and how to fix it

Like @troy45 mentioned, you really need to get the boot area (and the lining) dry.

I'd take the boot lining out completely and leave it somewhere to dry out (take everything out that you can, including the spare wheel). It'd be worth taking the carpet/lining off the wheel arches too, just in case anything's coming in at the top of the suspension struts (unlikely, but worth checking). I'd also check the drains are clear at the bottom of all the doors. You can check the boot floor (including the spare wheel bay) too when it's out, in case there is any corrosion or damage.

It's difficult to get anything dry this time of the year, but if you can use heat + A/C (if fitted) that would be better than just using the heater. You'll need to open the doors/windows on a dry day - the moisture has got to get out of the car somehow, otherwise you'll just end up moving it around the inside.

Check the roof lining and see if that's wet (especially towards the back) - the rear window washer pipe goes across the roof so if it's cracked it could be leaking. You might need to activate it to see if any water comes through.

If all else fails, a bodyshop should be able to find (and hopefully fix) whatever is going on.

Hi, I know the door and boot drain holes can become blocked and they fill with water. Check they are clear.

Run a quite thick line of vasaline over the edge of the boot seal where it makes contact with the tailgate, that will help.

found out that the roof panels sealant was cracked letting in water.
