MK2 1.6 Petrol Pre-MOT checks

Featured Replies

The first MOT while I have owned this MK2 is due in the next few months.

Never having owned one of these (or any Ford) before, are there any particular things I should have a closer look at before the MOT?

The car was a company car for the first 8 years of its life. After that it was owned by an old chap who according to the paperwork spent quite a bit of money on it over the time he had it.

The previous MOT history seems to look good, with no failures on corrosion listed anywhere.

The mileage is 123,000. I have paperwork showing that it has been serviced. I know they don't check it on the MOT, but the timing belt was done in Feb 2016 at 105,000 miles.

From what I can see, most of the threads on here seem to be about various electrical issues rather than mechanical.

Thanks for any replies.

Nothing in particular. Just the usual, same as for any car.

Wishbone bushes front and rear are common on MK2, bit have probably been done at that age and mileage.

Rust as you say.

Emissions from weak cats or rusty leaking exhausts.

And then just usual light, wipers etc.

Thanks for the replies.

The front wishbones were both changed in 2019.

I hope the cat doesn't need changing. It looks like a pig of a job being mounted on the rear of the engine above the steering rack. On the upside it does look difficult to steal.
