Radio crackle.

Featured Replies

Hi people

I have an 09 zetec s with the orange type factory radio. Everything thing works fine but the problem I have is when radio is on MW I get a lot of static even with the ignition completely off.

Has anyone managed to cure this?

I do like to listen to talksport and it is on MW lol.

You should try the "Radio Luxembourg" the "Light Programme"  or the "Home Service" they are all available on MW or was it SW when I last checked in 1965.

Who even has a radio with MW other than the Science Museum ? 🤣

I recall a friend who had problems with medium wave when he wanted talksport. The car was a Skoda and it was a problem with the signal amplifier built into the base of the aerial.  I have no idea if Ford do the same. The power for the  signal amplifier went up the same coax as the aerial signal. The same as how the signal booster on my freeview tv aerial . I don’t really understand how power and signal can travel in same cable but it does

I have done some searching on here and found that maybe the ariel needs a better earth so I will try that.

   Cheers.

I have recently bought Fiesta 2011 and had poor fm reception. It's sony head unit. So somewhere on Internet it says the torques bolt which holding antenna is to wide and touching earth. So took the antenna off and grinded  head of the bolt to smaller diameter. Cleaned everything, reassembled and I have good fm signal now. I haven't tried other bands.

Get yourself a NextBase DAB converter (or similar) and a cheap mag mount aerial - you'll get all the stations you'll ever need, including TalkSport...
