Ford Galaxy Electrical gremlins

Featured Replies

Hi, Newbie here...

My galaxy is showing some pretty strange issues and I need some suggestions on where to look.  It started on Christmas day when the windscreen wipers wouldnt turn off... I ignored it for the day, but then on boxing day I drove about a mile and parked up, then the hazards wouldnt turn off, the horn was going and the car wouldnt start.  After about 10 minutes of this it started and I managed to drive it home.  Next issue was the hazard lights kept starting for no reason whilst it was parked up and I was in the house.  I disconnected the battery for a day and that seems to have cured that issue but I still have some problems.

Right now I have the following problems

Interior lights dont work

Cigarette lighter doesnt work

Drivers door window controls dont work

Automatic headlights work, but dont adjust the brightness of the instrument cluster.

I did find a lot of water in the passenger footwell and rear footwell, I am trying to dry this out as best I can.

I was wondering if there is a common point in the car wiring that would effect all these points, something I might be able to try and fix.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I think you will find the problem lies with the BCM (body control module) which is part of the passenger fusebox.

All the items you are having problems with are controlled by the BCM. On some models (Not normally the Galaxy) water finds it's way in to the BCM and causes many problems, the unit itself can suffer serious damage if water does get it to it.

I think on your model it is located near/behind the glovebox, check also that the multi-way connectors have not been disturbed as it is sometimes possible for a passengers foot to catch the cables behind the glovebox.

Thanks Unofix, I was considering the BCM although I am dreading it if thats what the problem turns out to be as they arent cheap to repair/replace. I am half tempted to try and trade the car in as it is and just leave it behind, shame though with a 63 plate galaxy with only 57k miles on it.

Try heating it it with a hairdryer and getting it nice and warm. If things change (for the better or worse) then you can probably say its the BCM

Would any errors show up on the OBD scanner?  I have connected this in and it shows nothing wrong.

Generic OBD scanners will not show up any Ford specific codes.

You need a laptop with the software FORScan.

Thanks for that, if I do need to replace the BCM is this something possible at home?  Would I be able to reprogramme the new BCM with this forscan setup?

Hello Daniel, the BCM will indeed need to be programmed. FORScan can do much of this but I'm a little unsure about the situation regarding the PATS security system and the keyfobs. That may have to be done my a Ford dealer.
