Mk2 focus instrument cluster

Hey!

got a bit of a strange one with my Mk2 focus cc2 TDCi instrument cluster… so I’ve had it re soldiered (due to being able to drive it but nothing coming up, no revs/speed, no black lights etc) was shown to be working fine on the bench when we went to collect it, but upon fitting it back into the car the screen/backlights will flash on but won’t stay on unless it’s in its housing with a piece of paper wedged in… has anyone got any ideas?! Need it rectified asap, don’t really want to be doing any distance in it!!

you start to attach the wires to the cluster with the arm folded out... so line up the silly plug and as you press firmly home it part folds closed as the multiplug seats correctly - then it snaps closed to give a positive clamp in retention

on mine the stupid fold in clip that is supposed to hold it in place was half unfolded - if you tried to fit with the arm already folded to start with, its only just hanging in there

if the socket is seated correctly sounds like they've repaired it badly - its 5 mins job to check its in OK

and if that doesn't sound right I've muddles the type of plug it has - in the automotive world a lot of the sockets that need a robust connection, work this way..
