Focus hesitation/flat spot at 1700 RPM

Featured Replies

My wife’s Focus 1.0 auto (2019) has developed a flat spot or hesitation at 1700 RPM.

it happens in every gear but most noticeable on the motorway at 55 ish MPH.

The car is low mileage for its age (17k).

at approx 1700 RPM it feels like it’s missing and will slightly jerk constantly until I go above or below the 1700 Revs area.

I’ve tried to search before posting but can’t find anything like this.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

If it happens whenever you have a steady right foot on the Accelerator and disappears if you press or release your foot slightly and doesn't happen in Sports Mode then it may be the Cylinder Deactivation Vibration problems that a lot of people are complaining about.

Plenty of posts on this Forum if you do a search and no cure that I have heard of.

Agreed, put the car in "SPORT" mode and see if it still does it

Just as an update the issue existed in sport mode also. After years of this vibration/ hesitation especially on feather- light throttle it seemed to get worse. In the end I contacted ford to see if they could remove the feature but apparently they only offer that in the USA and not in UK.

In the end I purchased a “delete cylinder deactivation” software option from Rica.nl I ordered their isoftloader usb dongle and did the ECU update via that.

Now the car drives like new with zero hesitation/ vibration on light throttle. Albeit with around 6% less fuel economy due to the removal of the cylinder deactivation.

I also had an auto transmission oil change and added “Dr Tranny” lube to help the torque converter slight vibration also.

This was amazing stuff and the gearbox feels like new again and shifts so smoothly.

So I just wanted to update this post on my fix.

Transmission oil change and added friction modifier lube approx £160 at garage.

Isoftloader and software purchase approx £300

not related to your issue - but her focus 1.6 vvti of 2007 does exactly this since ethanol junk fuel turned up

it feels very much like injector cut out (cutting them back in) as it comes back to idle on a closed throttle
