Loss of power / hot air

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I’ve had my focus for just over a year. For the last few weeks, I’ve been issues where I’m having no hot air coming through the car when the blowers are on.

I’m also having issues with power loss. When the temp gauge sits at 90 degrees, the car performs fine. When the temp shoots above that, that’s when the power loss issues come in.

I topped the coolant up last week and I’ve had to do the same this morning, so I reckon there’s an issue with the coolant somewhere.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Hello Jack, welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

What engine do you have, petrol/diesel, size ?

Are you keeping the system filled using Ford Coolant and not just adding water ?

No hot air often means coolant level is low so the heater matrix has air in it. How much coolant did you have to add?

The bottle was 5.5L and I think I used a fair half

My previous car was 1.6 diesel fiesta.  Mine leaked coolant from the plastic thermostat cover. First thing that made me realise was when there was no heat from heater.

Not really a common problem on the 1.6 diesel.

What is a common problem is a faulty filler cap on the expansion tank. For the sake of £5 (Amazon / eBay) it might be worth replacing the cap. If the pressure relief valve in the cap has gone faulty it may be opening to soon and allowing the coolant out.

Do you mind me asking how much it cost to repair that? Just trying to weigh up how much it could cost if I have the same issue.

To be honest I never fixed it.  It took me a long time to find where the leak was.  I put radweld in it which is red. This meant that after a while the leak left a red stain. Which lead me to where it came out from. Over the years I put radweld in a few times. It would work for a while and then leak again. The car did over 100k miles after the problem started. I normally do all my one repairs but I never got round to that one because it didn’t stop me using the car and the part was very hard to get to. It was fiesta,  there might be better access to it on focus. I know that’s bad and people will be appalled .  Radweld is a bodge because it’s putting a load of fibrous stuff in there which might cause other problems.  But it never caused me any problems.  But there’s loads of places it could leak so don’t assume your problem is the same
