REAR SCREEN NOT HEATING UP ??

Featured Replies

My rear screen has suddenly nstopped working. Sadly I don't have a manual. Where is the fuse located ??? Is this common ??

Any advice greatly appreciated 👍👍

Thanks for reading 👍

You can get your manual here:  https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/my-vehicle/download-your-manual

Most common reason is low battery charge.

You might be lucky and find it’s just the fuse. I had a Lupo with same problem and replacing the fuse fixed it longterm. Have you checked the two connectors on the screen to make sure connected properly.

If you drop the glove box, you should see the decal showing which fuse/relay is which.

It will look like this, which is from a 2007 Fiesta, so probably exactly the same, so probably F26, and fed to a relay in the GEM.  If you have heated door mirrors, do they work ?

Cheers Paul, I've changed the fuse but no joy. It still lights up when I push the button. Where is the relevant relay located for this ?? Thanks mate

The Relay is in the GEM, about which I know nuffink !  I am assuming that you do not have heated door mirrors, as they are fed from the same relay

You need to check that there is 12V getting to the fuse way and thence to the rear hatch for the screen itself.  If you have a meter, pull the fuse, and see if you have 12V on one side of the fuseway, if you do, then measure the resistance to earth on the other side of the fuseway to see if you have continuity to the heating element.

Assuming it is similar to a Fiesta, you can access the screen connections quite easily by removing the trim panel in the hatch.  Three screws, then gently unclipping.

If you can measure the voltages on each connector reative to chassis, then you should be able to ascertain where the fault may lie.

If both ends are Zero - then 12V from relay is not getting to the screen.

If both ends are 12V - then you have lost the earth.

If one end is 12V and the other zero, then the screen is probably duff, but never come across that on a rear screen.  Disconnect the screen, and measure the screen resistance.

Thanks for this pal👍👍

Put a new fuse in and not getting any volts on either connector. So am assuming it's the relay, for which I have no experience/knowledge of unfourtantley lol. Thanks once again 👍

Trev John hi mate, ended up getting a auto spark to look at it.
The diagnosis is where the positive terminal attaches to o the screen is no longer conductable. The glass itself is specifically constructed in the factory with a highly conductive surface to it. Which has worn where the conducter attaches itself. A mixture of wear and tear and the boot being slammed is the only possible cause.
The spark is gonna come back to me next week as he's gonna research best way of putting it right. Says he came across similar issue a few years ago and the only solution was to replace the whole tailgate from a breakers car. Also an issue is how to get the connector attached to the screen without damaging the conductiveness of the glass. Hopefully glue will suffice👍
How nuts?? To be fair to the car it's the only problem I've had in six months!!!
Hope your motor us doing good mate 👍

Thanks for this pal👍👍
