Focus 2020 MK4 1.0 Ecoboost Initial Noise

Featured Replies

Hi, please forgive my ignorance and lack of mechanical knowledge! Just bought a 2020 Focus Hatchback Vignale. Although 2020, it only had 250 miles so was as new. It is the 1.0 Ecoboost engine though, which I know has had problems. When you start to drive off or at low speed, the engine sounds almost like a new diesel car or if the turbo's are kicking in. It goes away when you get speed up. Is this quite normal or potentially a problem? Many thanks for any advice.

When did it last have an oil and filter change ?

After 250 miles??

Yes !

The car is from 2020, with only 250 miles it must have sat around a lot. The oil can still degrade and condensation can form in the engine. The 1.0 Ecoboost is to put it politely sensitive and frequent oil and filter changes is one way to help reduce problems. It's cheaper to change the oil than the engine.

The wet belts are due for change at 150,000 miles or 10 years, so even by the year 2030 if it still has only done 5000 miles the belts will be due for replacement.

With regards to the belt change interval I don't see the logic of the mileage or age unless Ford expect the cars to reach 300,000 miles and/or 20 years of age. It would to me make more sense if they took the view that most cars will never make it past 180,000 miles and set the belt replacement mileage at 90,000 but that's just my opinion.
