Kwik-Fit - Fitted new tyres but refuse to do alignment !

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had my first MOT and while it passed had advisory about the tread depth on tyres - so decided to get a full set of Michelin CrossClimate 2 195/60 R15 V (92).

Ordered them on Line and had them fitted at my local Kwik-Fit, as would be expected from the state of the roads in Sussex - the alignment was off .. OK so realign them.

No ! They say they cannot do the alignment as changing the wheel alignment  also needs the camera to be re-calibrated used for the Lane-keeping, and they cannot do that.

I never use the lane-keeping - gave it a go but local roads don't fall within its capability so never did a thing.

They say they cannot do the alignment, as they would be liable if an accident was to be attributed to the alignment change without a re-calibration of the camera.

Is it just Kwik-Fit that do this or are other tyre fitters the same ?

Do I have to take the car to a ford dealer to get it done ?

Thanks

Many Ford dealers can’t do this themselves. You just need to go somewhere that can do it.

Your car will use the camera as part of it it’s safety features so there are insurance implications if it is intentionally not working correctly.

I have never come across this before, and I'm surprised (by which I mean I think they are talking rubbish).

I too have lane-keeping (which, like you, I keep switched off). I have had my wheels realigned by a tyre fitter specialist and also by a general independent garage.

Just phone a couple of local tyre fitters and I'm sure you/ll find someone to do it as a standard job.

I'm sure having a working camera is not (yet!!!!) an MOT requirement.

I had 4 Michelin CrossClimates fitted at ATS and they did alignment.
