Map upgrades

Featured Replies

I have a 2020 Focus Titanium 1.0 ecoboost. At start of week it said I had an upgrade for my Sync 3 which I duly downloaded and updated on my car. Then next night it said I had a map upgrade to do. Took me an hour to download then unzip to a flash drive, went by the instructions and it said to keep the car running and insert flash drive & after 35 minutes it would give a message on screen and then start updating again which would last for between 45 to 50 minutes then it would tell me to switch car off and lock doors then after 2 minutes to get back in and restart the engine and 2 minutes later it would be all over and remove flash drive. Anyway, was getting bored sitting in the car and went for a run but never saw a first message or the 2nd message and by the time I got home was more than 2 hours so thought all would be well, but upon switching off the engine it said upgrade had failed. What a pain in the proverbial. Why so long for map upgrade? I can do one on my external sat nav in 20 minutes maximum.

You should never believe the information on the Ford site about Sync3 updates 🤣

Don't worry about it, just leave the USB plugged in and over the next day or so while you are driving about it will eventually finish. Just remember when it has finished to upload the completion file back to the Ford site so that the system knows the update has been installed.

I had a similar experience.  I downloaded the latest sync 3 upgrade - no problems.  I now had 2 attempts to download the latest maps.  After the first at attempt, which failed I wiped my USB and redownloaded the map files from ford, because I thought they may have been corrupted?  Today I had another go at installing.  It took over 2 hours and then I got 2 messages:  Message 1:  "Installation failed.  Error code:INSTL_ERR14.  Download files again and retry to install"

Message 2:  " Your SYNC software was successfully updated to 3.4.21194 PRODUCT.  For more information on what this update contains please refer to http// support.ford.com or the Ford Pass app"

I didn't get a download complete message.  There is no completion file on my USB so I'm guessing the maps haven't been downloaded.  (I do wonder what was happening during those 2 hours?).

I would be very grateful if someone could advise what I could do next.  I tried Emailing Ford but I'm not holding my breath while I'm waiting for a reply!  Hoping someone can help.  Many thanks,

Steve

I went back in and tried the update again and eventually after going for another run it finally upgraded itself and all is fine now. It didn't however make the file on the flash drive to upload to Ford. On there website is a tool to go on flash drive which did get the file downloaded and sent to Ford, so fully upgraded now. Cheers guys for help.

Hi James, do I need a bank USB to download the tool after downloading maps and not getting the "update file" (whatever they call it)?

Just use the Cyanlabs site, it's much easier to use than the Ford site and at the end of the day you get the same software updates and the same maps.

Sync 3 updater: https://cyanlabs.net/applications/syn3-updater/

Update to Sync 3.4: https://cyanlabs.net/tutorials/windows-automated-method-update-to-3-4/

Thanks Unofix,  I'll give them ago next time.

The CyanLabs software also gives you the opportunity to upgrade to the version SYNC 3.4 software suite.
