My 2008 1.6 TDCi Fusion isn't my main car and I don't use it much. Last year I had to jump start it a few times when I came to use it, which my poor little Aygo managed to help out with 😅. When I had to get it going to take it for its MOT last month I couldn't get it going so replaced the battery. To check whether the previous flat battery had been due to excessive power draw I measured the current with everything off. About 15 seconds after completing the battery circuit it settles down to 0.22A. From what I've read it should ideally be lower than this? Time to start pulling fuses to see where the power is going? I've left it with the battery disconnected for now.

It takes at least 30 minutes after the ignition is turned off and the car is fully locked before all modules enter sleep mode and shut down.

I assume that your car does not have keyless entry, but if it does then you need to keep the key out of range while measuring the current draw.

Heard of this problem before but not experienced it myself.

Are you sure your alternator is charging the battery fully ?

I did read that the blocking diode in alternator can fail, causing voltage feedback into the regulator circuit. Disconnect the alternator control plug and possibly the main + as a trial to rule that out.

Ensure you have nothing plugged into the cigar lighter sockets as i believe these are permanent live.

I have also heard of intrument cluster lights staying illuminated all night after parking and locking up.

You say you don't use the car that often, but when you do use it is it long enough on journey duration to recharge fully ? in other words if you were using it every day for example for 20/30 miles would this problem resolve itself ?

Oh BTW i forgot to ask, is your radio a factory fitted one or has it been upgraded and any other mods to the car ?

I also just had a read up on another group, this lad had a car with auto folding mirrors on lock up but one stopped folding, thought nothing of it and will sort it later - unknown to him the motor was constantly powered trying to fold the mirror until it hit the sensor / switch to say it's closed then turns off the motor voltage - hence the reason why he had a flat battery every morning. Probably doesn't apply to you but an interesting subject.
