Alternator problem Mk2 Focus ST

Featured Replies

Hi,

Have anyone had similar problems on Mk2 Focus St. Alternator not charging. Battery light go off after starting, and no error codes on diagnostic machine. Only get reading of 12.2V . Doesn't matter whether engine is running or switched off.

If you’re only getting 12.2V it’s very likely the alternator has gone - I went through all of this last winter.

Maybe worth checking the belt is ok as when mine died ( and it’s replacement a month later) the battery light stayed on.

To be certain with voltage readings try taking the voltage from the main connection on the alternator. If it’s noticeably higher then you’ve got a problem with the main power cable from alternator to the battery. If it’s still 12V then next check the voltage with the small wiring plug (smart charging from PCM) disconnected from the alternator - it should default to 14V output with it disconnected. If not then alternator is dead.
